Displays that cover almost every aspect of life have been carefully created by museum volunteers. Explore the history of the Tuscarora Indians in the museum's Tuscarora exhibit room and across the street at the Tuscorara Catechna Indian Village replica. You'll also find Civil War exhibits as well as those of the area's plants, animals, geology and other natural history. Bring a child or young friend and you're guaranteed something to get a great conversation started!
The museum also includes important information about John Lawson, North Carolina's first Surveyor-General and the author of History of Carolina. Lawson was executed on September 20, 1711 by the Tuscarorans at Catechna during the bloody war between the Tuscaroras and settlers.. Ironically, Lawson had been an advocate for the Native Americans. Grifton celebrates his many significant contributions with John Lawson Legacy Days.
